New News from Mike

I see that Mike has been a busy bee this summer. Let's see what he has done now.......

"Module I've been working on is complete and back at the Pittaways garage;
2010-09-11.02 This final photo gives a good idea of what the new "approach" yard throat looks like when it's connected to the Swan's corner module, this is the location it will be in during a layout setup. As you can see it is now back at Len's garage. Also as the photo shows, I test ran my pennsy T1 through all of the turnouts with no problems (this is the longest rigid wheel base engine I have)." -Michael Guariento

Thanks Mike for all you have done!

What's New with Mike this week.........

Mike sent me this the other day. He is coming along.

Here's what he has to say......

"All of the track is permanently down. 3 tracks on the left are the new leads into the "outer loop" staging, the track on the extreme right will become the extended "inner loop" staging siding. Now I have to wire everything together, this may take a while." -Mike Guariento

Thanks Mike and keep up the good work!

August 8th 2010

Mike has sent me another photo of the hard work he is doing on our module.

"2010-08-08.04 This is the latest progress on the module I'm working on. The two main lines have been relaid - glued and nailed down. The turnout will lead into the staging tracks for the "outside" main." Michael Guariento

I know I would personaly like to that him for all the hard work he is doing. He really is helping make out module a "gem!"

Up To Date Photo......

Hey,

I was lucky enough to be sent another piece of the puzzle that Mike Guariento is working on. He states to me, in an email.......

"2010-07-18.03 The cork roadbed is down on the module top. The three turnouts are not permanently attached yet - they are just to give a visual idea of how the approach ladder will lead into the 3 yard sidings." ~ Mike Guariento

Thanks Mike for all your hard work.

Pictures for Mike Guariento

Guys,

Mike asked me to place these pictures of the module part he is working on. Thanks Mike for the wonderful work and pictures.

"This series of photos will (hopefully) show the progress I make during modifying the HO track arrangement on what we call the "Bridge" module (has the big Atlas bridge on the "O" scale side). The intent is to create an "approach" yard lead into the HO staging sidings, this will eliminate the need to back trains into these sidings and the resulting hold-up of following trains on the main." - Mike Guariento

2010-06-20.02 This shows how the HO track arrangement was before any work was started. Note that the "pink foam" extends to the very end of the module - this is structurally not a good condition as the foam takes quite a betting during setup and tear-down. It will be replaced. When I took on this project I did not realize this problem existed - oh well!

2010-07-04.01 The track and old cork roadbed has been removed. The "pink foam" has been cut back from the ends to allow a 1 x 2 to be inserted in the end plate areas.

2010-07-05.05 This shows the completed end plate modification with the new 1 x 2 glued and screwed in place (both ends).

Train, Truck Collision Under Investigation

POSTED: Friday, May 14, 2010

UPDATED: 7:19 pm EDT May 14, 2010

Three people were injured when a train and a tractor-trailer collided in southwest Detroit early Friday morning. The collision happened near Schaefer Highway and Greenfield Road near the Detroit and Melvindale border.

The train had 35 cars attached behind it and was carrying more than 3,000 gallons of fuel. The crash destroyed the truck and caused the train to fall off the track and land on its side."He said that the truck driver ran right through the light and the rail and just ran into him," said the conductor's Tim William's wife, Noel.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital but was not seriously injured. Two of the train conductors were also taken to the hospital for precautionary measures."I'm just glad he's alive and he's going to be okay because looking at this, it could have been a lot worse," said Williams.

The truck driver, who is from Alco Steel, told police he did not see any warning lights from the train.Officials with the railroad said they believe the warning lights were working."Our train crew was interviewed and they said that the that the lights were working properly. We will run diagnostic tests on that device later today to confirm that,"said Rudy Husband, Norfolk and Southern Railroad Spokesman.

Henry Ford Retirement Village

Henry Ford Retirement Village is one of our favorite spots.....well all are our favorite spots.

We were invited back on April 18, 2010 and was it an enjoyment.

Villagers were bringing their Grandchildren and having the time of their lives. There were two boys who just could not get enough! I saw them when some of us were eating lunch and the little one, about 4, wanted to going back. Him and his brother were running around the trains trying to keep up with Bruce's BIG "O" gauge. I'm not condoning the running around, but it was cute.

Some of the villagers also told me how disappointed they were that we were not going to be there longer or another day. Sorry guys and I hope we will be there next year....or sooner.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and our next show, what we have scheduled, is their sister place. Fox Run Retirement Village in Novi on June 5th and 6th.
